[:en]The best way to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the State of Nebraska is to dance. The Orpheum Theater knows this, which is why it opened its doors for the event organized by Omaha Performing Arts in which 14 dance companies came together to put on a show in which each participant managed to present the best of their choreographic repertoire.
The only Latino dance academy in attendance was the Mexican Dance Academy of Nebraska, led by Hector Moreno, which literally “stole the show.”
“Nebraska in Motion” was the name of this September show that included many groups from around the State, with the expectation of allowing each group to showcase, through dance, what Nebraska meant to them.
And dance they did. The versatility of the show allowed those in attendance to appreciate modern dance, ballet, belly dancing and Mexican folklore, to name a few.
For Hector Moreno, performing at said location was twice as special: “First of all, it was an honor to be invited to be among the select group of dancers who could celebrate the State of Nebraska’s anniversary in the most important theater in the city of Omaha,” said Moreno, with the second one being how happy he is to perform there as he remembers sitting among the audience at the Orpheum Theater years ago when he said to himself: “One day I’ll also set foot on this stage.”
Hector didn’t dance, but his dancers certainly did, all under the supervision of the demanding dreamer who finally saw his wish come true. Back then be probably didn’t think of how the public would react, but it definitely couldn’t have been any better than this.
First of all, it was the only academy that, according to the choreographer, was allowed to dance for a bit longer than the rest. And second, it received big ovations more than once as everyone danced, with the audience screaming, whistling and applauding as they chanted “Viva Mexico.”
Members of Omaha Performing Arts stated that the purpose of these performances was to show the diversity and talent of Nebraska, showcasing at the same tome the many different types and styles of dancing in the region.
At the end of the event choreographer, Kat Fackler presented a dance called “Flyover Country,” written by UNL composer Tyler White and interpreted by the Omaha Area Youth Orchestras. For this, the group included one dancer from each academy for a big show of Nebraska in Motion, which was a pleasant surprise for the dancers and the audience.

Orgullosamente, la única academia de danza latina fue la Mexican Dance Academy of Nebraska, dirigida por Héctor Moreno, misma que “se robo el show”, literalmente.
“Nebraska in Motion” fue el nombre que se le dio al programa presentado el pasado mes de septiembre, mismo que incluyo a diversos grupos de todo el estado, con la expectativa de permitir que cada uno de ellos demostrara lo que significa Nebraska para ellos, a través del baile.
Y así fue. La versatilidad del espectáculo permitir apreciar danza moderna, ballet, danza del vientre y folclor mexicano, por mencionar solo algunos.
Para Héctor Moreno, la presentación en dicho recinto fue doblemente especial: “Primero, fue un honor ser invitados para estar dentro del selecto grupo de bailarines que festejaran al estado de Nebraska por su aniversario, en el teatro más importante de la ciudad de Omaha”, dijo Moreno, quien expreso la segunda razón de su felicidad al recordar que hace años el estubo sentado en las butacas del teatro Orpheum y se dijo a sí mismo: “Algún día yo también voy a estar pisando este escenario”.
Héctor no bailo, pero si lo hicieron todos sus bailarines, bajo la mirada exigente de un soñador que así veía cristalizado un deseo de hacia años. Este soñador quizá no pensó en aquel entonces cuál sería la respuesta del público, pero definitivamente no pudo ser mejor.
En primer lugar, fueron la única academia a la que se le permitió bailar un poco más que al resto, según expreso el coreógrafo. Y en segundo, fueron ovacionados en más de una ocasión mientras bailaban, llegando a la efervescencia general con gritos, silbidos, aplausos y frases coreadas que retumbaban por todo el teatro diciendo “Viva México”.
Directivos de Omaha Performing Arts indicaron que el propósito de las presentaciones fue mostrar la diversidad y el talento que hay en Nebraska, enseñando al mismo tiempo las diferentes formas y estilos de baile que se encuentran en la región.
El cierre del evento presento una coreografía de Kat Fackler, llamada “Flyover Country”, escrita por el compositor de UNL Tyler White he interpretada por la Orquesta Juvenil del Área de Omaha. Aquí el grupo de baile fue conformado por un bailarín de cada academia participante en el show general de Nebraska in Motion, lo cual resulto una grata sorpresa para los bailarines y para el público en general.
De esta forma, Nebraska celebró 150 años, exhibiendo las diferentes culturas que se encuentran en su territorio, para enaltecer la importancia y el papel que cada uno tiene en la creación de la identidad del estado.[:]
